Dutch Clean Tech today announces that it has raised €15 million from existing investors. With this financing, the company has acquired a 25% stake in Agua del Mariscal, one of the oldest private drinking water companies in Central America. This strengthens Dutch Clean Tech's international position and marks an important step in building a global portfolio of sustainable water infrastructure.
Guatemala is one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America, while its drinking water infrastructure can barely keep pace with population growth. Around 44% of households do not have safely managed drinking water, and the public pipe network loses 35 to 50% of the water produced each year because of outdated infrastructure. With its stake in Agua del Mariscal, Dutch Clean Tech, together with its investors, is responding to the growing demand for reliable private drinking water suppliers.
Agua del Mariscal was founded in 1928 and was the first private drinking water company in Central America. The company supplies drinking water to households, businesses and property developments in Guatemala City. Following the takeover in 2025 by a consortium of Guatemalan entrepreneurs, a substantial growth programme has been launched, which will be continued by Dutch Clean Tech. The ambition is to grow Agua del Mariscal into the largest private drinking water company in Guatemala. Revenue is expected to grow from approximately USD 3.6 million to well over USD 40 million in 2033, while the number of connected customers more than quintuples.
To realise this ambition, Dutch Clean Tech raised €15 million from existing investors, who support the company in its mission to increase worldwide access to clean drinking water. With this investment, a 25% stake in Agua del Mariscal has been acquired. In addition, Dutch Clean Tech obtains a seat on the company's board of directors.
Dutch Clean Tech is investing alongside a number of respected international partners, including Aguas de Valencia, which has been active in the drinking water sector for more than 130 years. Together, USD 60 million is being invested in the further development of Agua del Mariscal.
“Water is becoming one of the most strategic utilities worldwide. We want not only to develop, finance and operate water treatment plants, but also to invest in companies that play an essential role in the drinking water supply of the future. Agua del Mariscal is a fine example of that: a company with almost a hundred years of history, a unique market position and enormous growth potential,” said Sander Pielkenrood, CEO of Dutch Clean Tech.
