Sander Pielkenrood with the BID Water Innovation Award at the Dutch Innovation Prize 2025

On 24 November 2025, the BID Innovation Awards and the Dutch Innovation Prize were presented. Dutch Clean Tech was named winner in the Water Innovation category and came second in the Impact Innovation category.

The Dutch Innovation Prize is based on the results of the Dutch Innovation Monitor, from the Amsterdam Centre for Business Innovation (ACBI) of the University of Amsterdam in cooperation with SEO Economic Research, and is awarded annually in the categories most innovative large company, most innovative SME and societal impact. All nominees also receive the BID Innovation Awards each year. The prizes are presented at the BID National Innovation Gala, an initiative of Big Improvement Day.

With the growing importance of access to and proper use of water, ‘Water innovation’ was added this year as an extra category for the BID Innovation Awards and for the National Innovation Prize. Dutch Clean Tech was chosen as winner by the jury. This developer, financier and operator of water treatment plants was recognised for its combination of technology and an innovative financing model in which European investors bridge the funding gap for the facilities in order to increase access to clean (drinking) water worldwide.

In addition, Dutch Clean Tech was nominated for the Dutch Innovation Prize 2025 in the categories ‘Impact Innovation’ and ‘SME’. In the first category, the company secured second place.

“Dutch Clean Tech found a unique combination of technological and financial innovation to actively contribute to clean drinking water, water reuse and less pollution, particularly in Latin America. A deserving winner of the BID Innovation Award and a well-earned runner-up for the Dutch Innovation Prize,” said the jury.

“Water is not only a basic need for people, but also for business. Without water, technological innovation would be impossible. We are incredibly proud and see this as encouragement to keep fulfilling our mission and to ensure that everyone has access to clean water,” said Sander Pielkenrood, CEO of Dutch Clean Tech.
