Why clean water?
Dare to dream bigger
Sander Pielkenrood, CEO of Dutch Clean Tech, worked with his father for seventeen years to build up the family business Pielkenrood. Since 1962, Pielkenrood has been developing customised water purification systems for oil/water separation, supplied to industrial customers worldwide. During his years with the company, Sander travelled to various parts of the world, including regions where access to clean drinking water is anything but a given. There, he realised that water is not only a basic human need, but also an indispensable resource for industry and innovation.
He developed a desire to use his technical knowledge and Pielkenrood’s proven technologies for a greater social purpose. That ambition formed the basis for Dutch Clean Tech: a company that combines technology and financing to make clean water accessible worldwide.

Water facilities for government and industry
In 2022, Sander Pielkenrood’s dream became a reality with the founding of Dutch Clean Tech. Based on Pielkenrood’s advanced technology, we developed a modular, scalable installation for the production of clean drinking water and the purification of waste water. Since the start, our focus has been on speed, reliability, low costs and energy efficiency.
Dutch Clean Tech actively collaborates with local contractors for the construction of installations. In doing so, we stimulate the local economy and ensure knowledge transfer. We employ local staff for operation and maintenance, providing them with appropriate training and fair wages. In this way, we create a sustainable impact, not only in water, but also in employment and regional development.
Why clean water?
Bridging the costs gap
Governments and industries often lack the financial resources to invest in high-quality water treatment technology. At the same time, there is an abundance of capital available in Europe, with investors looking for opportunities that offer both returns and social impact.
Dutch Clean Tech brings these worlds together through an innovative shared economy model. European investors finance the construction of water treatment plants. Instead of a large, one-off investment, users pay a fixed monthly amount based on their actual water consumption. This gives them quick access to reliable technology without financial barriers and our investors with impact and a 9% return.

Projects & future
Dutch Clean Tech is now developing water treatment plants to reduce the scarcity of clean water in countries such as Mexico and Guatemala. At the same time, local offices have been opened in Dubai, Mexico and Guatemala to support the projects on site and build long-term partnerships.
With a project pipeline worth over €300 million, the combination of advanced technology and innovative financing is proving promising. Not only for governments and industries in urgent need of clean water solutions, but also for investors looking for returns with impact.

Why clean water solutions?
Safe drinking water and good sanitary solutions are essential for a healthy and comfortable life. Unfortunately, there are still many people who don’t have access to these basic needs. In many areas, sewage systems are nowhere near sufficient. Too many people must go outdoors or even travel for hours each day for their water supply. To these people, having easy and affordable safe drinking water is life-changing and a chance for a better life.

Why clean water
Guatemala - ProPetapa
In Guatemala City, we are working with a strong local partner on the ProPetapa project. Here, several deep wells are being developed to supply drinking water to a nearby industrial park and to the municipal water company EMPAGUA. Some of the water will be used in industrial processes and some will be made available to households in the surrounding area. In the first phase, three wells will be constructed, with the possibility of scaling up to five. This project, valued at $3.3 million, contributes to a more stable water supply in a region where clean drinking water is not a given.
Pioneering role on clean water
Mexico - Agrogen
Agrogen is an industrial producer of fertilisers and chemical products based in Querétaro. The company currently relies entirely on groundwater for its processes. Dutch Clean Tech is developing a sustainable solution whereby untreated wastewater from the city of Querétaro is transported to the company, treated on site and reused in production. Seventy percent of the treated water is supplied to Agrogen, with the remaining thirty percent going to other industrial customers in the region. The project, valued at $12.1 million, reduces pressure on groundwater resources and promotes circular water use in the industrial sector.

Why clean water
Mexico - Puerto Interior
The Puerto Interior project is located in the industrial park of the same name in the state of Guanajuato, where approximately 130, mostly international, companies currently use groundwater for industrial processes and drinking water supply. Although there are two existing wastewater treatment plants, the treated water is still being discharged.
Dutch Clean Tech is developing a system to treat the combined wastewater from the park, including sewage, and make it suitable for reuse. In addition, during the rainy season, rainwater is collected in a lagoon and then treated for industrial use.
This large-scale project, valued at $34.5 million, will help to significantly reduce dependence on groundwater and strengthen the resilience of the local water system.
Pioneering role on clean water
Mexico - Cancún
In Cancún, we are working on the Centro Integral de Saneamiento y Economía Circular (CISEC), a large-scale and innovative environmental hub. This region is facing an annually increasing nuisance of sargassum (seaweed), resulting in ecological damage and economic losses due to a decline in tourism.
The project, worth around $150 million, consists of developing a system to detect, collect and recycle the seaweed at sea at an early stage and building a biogas plant to convert the seaweed – together with municipal waste – into energy. In addition, the outdated sewage treatment plants will be replaced by three new plants to improve water quality.
With this integrated approach, CISEC contributes to both the ecological protection and economic resilience of Cancún as a tourist destination.

Connecting communities
Dutch Clean Tech wants to bring people together by offering mutually beneficial opportunities.
In developing countries people need clean water, but often there is not enough money to invest. In the West there is more than enough money, and people are facing persistently low interest rates and rapidly increasing inflation.
Dutch Clean Tech connects these communities. Dutch private investors finance the installations supplied by Dutch Clean Tech to provide people in other parts of the world with clean water solutions.
Local content
We work with local contractors and builders to construct the water treatment plants, thus stimulating local economies. Moreover we employ local people for operation and maintenance. We offer them an education and a job with a fair salary.

Clean water on the social agenda
Dutch Clean Tech offers the installations on the basis of ‘pay for use and not for ownership’. We supply compact and modular drinking water production facilities and sewage treatment plants. This way large groups of people have immediate access to basic needs.
Unlike donations and subsidy projects, our business model works. It works because all parties involved have a mutually beneficial interest.
